Kirtipur City Sightseeing Tour - 1 Day
Tour Overview
Kirtipur is situated 8 km southwest of Kathmandu and an ancient Newar
township. The major attractions of Kirtipur are Tribhuvan University-TU,
located at the foot of the hill. The Chovar, a very scenic spot located
near Kirtipur. The temple of Adinath, situated on a top of the hill,
the Chilamcho Stupa, the temple of Bagh Bhairav, Uma Maheshwor temple,
dedicated to Lord Shiva and Shri Kirti Bihara, a Buddhist Monastery are
also major attractions of Kirtipur. Kirtipur is completely a religious
place of historical importance. At every 1 km maximum of distance we can
find a temple in Kirtipur. A visit to Kirtipur is a cultural
sightseeing where we can also enjoy seeing the traditional people and
their lifestyle.
Itinerary
At 8:00 am:
After breakfast in the morning we gather together in the Great Nepal
office at Thamel for city sightseeing tour to Kirtipur. It is located
at distance of 9 km from Central Kathmandu. We reach there by around
30-40 minutes drive. We leave Thamel office by 8:15 to 8:20.
At 9:00 am:
Around 9 in the morning we will be at our destination. The first place
we visit will be chilamcho stupa, a pagoda style temple. It lies at
quite a height surrounded by traditional homes all around. People
living there and their lifestyle also seem to be very traditional and
ritual. We can find mostly the Newar communities.
At 10:00 am: We move down from Chilamcho stupa to Bagh Bhairab Temple. It lies
around half a kilometer from Chilamcho Stupa. The Bagh Bhairab temple
consists of statue of Hindu God Bhairab. It is different from other
Bhairab statue as it does not consist of tongue with its mouth open
wide. From the back side of this temple the panoramic Kathmandu valley
view can be observed. The festival of Bagh Bhairab is celebrated on the
first day of month of Bhadra.
At 11:00 am:
Around 11 in the morning we can go to some of the traditional
restaurants which provides us a delicious and hygienic food with a
typical taste. The hospitality they provide us makes us feel like not
leaving the place. The special menu for Newari dishes will be serves to
us.
At 01:00 pm: we
leave for uma maheshwor from there. It is located at the maximum height
of Kirtipur town. From that place we see the complete view of Kathmandu
valley. The Swyombhunath, White Gumba can be located from the left
wing of the temple.
At 02:00 pm:
Around 2 in the noon we reach Shri Kirti Bihar. There we find the
statue of every stage in Siddhartha Gautam life turning to Gautam
Buddha. The enlightment getting is so fascinatingly shown through
carvings. Many Buddhist followers and nuns do sacred prayers there and
some even sacrifice all their lives for their religion. It is a very
peaceful place. The chanting and prayers there gives peace and feeling
like light hearted in people.
At 03:00 pm:
After visit to Shri Kirti Bihar, at 3pm in the daytime we will head
towards Adinath temple. This temple lies at height of Chovar. The
Chovar and Kirtipur hills are separated by a valley in between. Chovar
is at a little distance from Sri Bihar. It takes around an hour walk.
We need to walk through valley as well as climb the hill through
staircase, the climb is not that tough, the scenario around will make
your climb easier. Adinath temple consists of Seto Machhindranath.
At 05:00 pm: Around
5 pm, we get down from Chovar. We can get back to Great Nepal’s office
or if convenient time we can visit Jal Binayak. A holy temple of Lord
Ganesh. It will take only an hour to visit.
