Recently Government of Nepal has been maintaining the record of trekkers and checking the illegal operation in trekking business, Trekking Agencies Association of Nepal (TAAN) and Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) have occurrence to put into operation the Trekkers Information Management System (TIMS) since 1st January 2008. Trekkers belonging to every nationality going on trek in Nepal require a TIMS certificate. Trekking Registration Certificate (TRC) and the TIMS slips will be made available to trekkers free of cost. Trekking agencies working as members of TAAN, use TIMS counters. The TAAN central office in Kathmandu and its regional chapter office in Pokhara also issues TIMS slips. If necessary, Nepal Tourism Board will open its counter to issue the slips for Free Individual Tourists. There are two types of TIMS Certificates: blue certificate for the organized trekkers and green certificates for free individual trekkers. Trekkers will get a TIMS Card from Great Nepal office situated  in Thamel, Kathmandu Nepal.
Rewards from TIMS
(I) Illegal operation in trekking business are discouraged.
(II) Controlled exposure to illegal activities.
(III) Carry out rescue operation during emergencies.
(IV) More employment opportunities for experienced guides and field staffs can be generated.
(V) Decreased pressure on trekking routes by diverting trekkers to other routes.
(VII) Creates business environment and improves trekking practices.
