Bhaktapur is locally known as Bhadgaon and Khowpa (in Newari). This
ancient city is also known as “City of culture”, “Living heritage” and
“Nepal’s Cultural Capital”, located about 20 km east of Kathmandu and
5.5 km east from Tribhuvan International Airport. A visit to Bhaktapur
is a cultural sightseeing where we can also enjoy seeing the
traditional people and their lifestyle.
Itinerary
At 8:00 am: After breakfast
in the moning we gather together in the Great Nepal office at Thamel
for city sightseeing tour to Bhaktapur. We reach there by around 1 hr
drive. We leave Thamel office by 8:15 to 8:20.
At 9:30 am:
Around 9:30 in the morning we will be at our destination. The first
place we visit will be Surya Vinayak Shrine, located at a top of a
hill in a forest. This temple is also known as the temple of the rising
sun, dedicated to Lord Ganesh, son of Lord Shiva. It is believed to be
have been originally built over 1500 years old ago, in the time of the
Lichhavi King Vishnu Dev Barma.
At 10:30 am:
We reach at Bhaktapur Durbar Square, built by Malla King Bhupatindra
Malla. The major attractions of Bhaktapur Durbar Square are Taleju
Temple, Nyatapole Temple, most famous pagoda of Nepal, dedicated to
Siddhilaxmi, the tantric Goddess of supreme power and success, Big
bell, 55 windows Palace, built by Yakshya Malla, considered with
woodcarving, Yaksheswor Mahadev Temple, built by Yakshya Malla in 15th
century.
Other attractions of Bhaktapur Durbar Square are
Chyasin Mandap, Siddhi Laxmi Temple (Fasi dega), Vatsala Temple,
dedicated to a mother Goddess and known for its dog barking bell,
Bhandarkhal Complex, Chatu Brahma Mahavihar, Indrayeni Temple, Balakhu
Ganesh Temple, Tripura Sundari Temple and the Char Dham, the four
greatest hindu pilgrimage sites, Bhairavnath Temple, dedicated to
Bhairav, the God of terror and death.
At 11:30 pm: We leave for Dattatreya Temple, claimed that the building was constructed from a single piece of wood.
At 12:00 pm:
We reach Siddha Pokhari, old pond, is situated at Dudhpati-17 in the
ancient city. It was built in the early 15th century during the reign
of Yakshya Malla. It measures 171 meters long by 73 meters wide and 3
meters deep.
At 12:30 pm: We
can go to some of the traditional restaurants which provides us a
delicious and hygienic food with a typical taste. The hospitality they
provide us makes us feel like not leaving the place. The special menu
for Newari dishes will be serves to us.
At 1:00 pm: We reach Thimi, a traditional Newar city lies about 5 km west of Bhaktapur.
At 1:30 pm: After visit to Thimi at 1:00 pm in the daytime, we will head towards Changu Narayan Temple.
At 2:00 pm:
After reaching, we start seight seeing of Changu Narayan. It is the
oldest temple in Kathmandu valley lies 22 km from Kathmandu. The temple
is dedicated to Lord Vishnu with ten heads and ten arms of stone
carving. This temple was built in 4th century.
At 4:00 pm: Around 4 in the evening we return back to Kathmandu. It takes around 1 hours drive.
