Travel Advisory Date: 29–31 October 2026

Important Notice for Tourists, Trekkers and Mountaineers

Great Nepal Treks & Expedition Pvt. Ltd. advises all tourists, trekkers, mountaineers and travel partners to exercise extra caution while travelling in Nepal over the coming days.
According to weather warnings reported by Nepalese authorities, a developing weather system is expected to bring heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds to parts of Nepal. High-hill and Himalayan regions face additional risks from heavy snowfall, snowstorms and possible avalanches.

The Department of Tourism has urged travellers to avoid high-altitude Himalayan areas from 28 October to 1 November 2026. The Department of Immigration has also issued guidance concerning high-altitude trekking during the period.
Our priority is the safety of every traveller, guide, porter, driver and local community. We encourage visitors to remain informed, follow official instructions and make responsible travel decisions.

1. What Weather Conditions Should Travellers Expect?
Weather conditions may vary significantly between Nepal's plains, hills and Himalayan regions. The forecast period presents several potential hazards:
* Heavy rainfall in some areas, particularly on 30 and 31 October.
* Thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds.
* Heavy snowfall and snowstorms at high elevations.
* Possible avalanches in vulnerable Himalayan terrain.
* Increased risk of flash floods, river rises, landslides and soil erosion.
* Possible delays or disruptions to road journeys, domestic flights and trekking itineraries.
These are forecast risks, not confirmation that every destination will experience the same conditions. Travellers should check location-specific updates before departure.

2. Advisory for Trekkers and Mountaineers
High-altitude trekking requires particular caution during adverse weather because snowfall, reduced visibility, strong winds and difficult trail conditions can quickly affect safety.
The Department of Tourism has urged travellers to avoid high-altitude Himalayan areas during the current warning period. Trekkers planning journeys to the Everest, Annapurna, Manaslu, Langtang, Mustang and other high-mountain regions should contact their trekking agency before departing.

Our recommendations:
* Postpone high-altitude trekking and mountaineering in accordance with current government advisories.
* If you are already on a trekking route, remain in a safe location and follow your guide's and local authorities' instructions.
* Do not attempt high passes, exposed trails or snow-covered routes when conditions are unsafe.
* Avoid crossing swollen streams, rivers, temporary bridges or damaged trail sections.
* Stay away from avalanche-prone slopes and areas vulnerable to landslides.
* Keep your guide, accommodation provider and trekking agency informed about your location.
* Allow additional days for weather-related delays and changes to your itinerary.
Never assume that a route is safe simply because rainfall has stopped. Trail damage, unstable slopes and fresh snowfall may continue to pose risks after the weather improves.

3. Road Travel and Domestic Flights
Heavy rainfall can affect mountain roads, river crossings and transport connections. Poor visibility and strong winds may also affect domestic aviation, particularly flights serving mountain destinations.

Before travelling:
* Confirm road conditions and possible closures with local authorities and your transport operator.
* Check flight status directly with your airline or airport.
* Avoid unnecessary journeys through landslide-prone areas during severe weather.
* Do not drive through floodwater or across damaged bridges.
* Keep your travel documents, medicines, mobile phone and emergency contacts accessible.
* Allow flexibility for delays, cancellations and overnight stops.
Travellers should be especially cautious on mountain roads and routes that have recently experienced floods, landslides or temporary repairs.

4. Advice for Tourists Visiting Kathmandu, Pokhara and Other Destinations

Not every destination in Nepal will experience identical weather conditions. City sightseeing, cultural visits and other activities may remain possible where local conditions are suitable.
However, visitors should check local forecasts before setting out and adjust their plans if heavy rain, lightning, flooding or transport disruptions are reported.

Consider indoor cultural attractions or other suitable alternatives when outdoor activities become unsafe. Avoid riverbanks, flood-prone locations and exposed viewpoints during severe weather.

For wildlife activities, rafting, boating and other adventure experiences, follow the operating decisions and safety instructions of authorised local providers.

5. Advice for Travel Agencies, Guides and Tour Operators
Great Nepal Treks & Expedition encourages tourism professionals to take proactive measures to protect visitors and local staff.

We recommend that operators:
* Inform clients about current government advisories before departure.
* Review upcoming trekking itineraries and identify alternative arrangements.
* Maintain regular contact with guides, porters, drivers, hotels and local communities.
* Verify road access, flight schedules and trail conditions using reliable local sources.
* Ensure guests know where to seek assistance if conditions deteriorate.
* Prioritise safe accommodation and evacuation arrangements when advised by competent authorities.
* Communicate itinerary changes promptly to international travel partners.
Responsible tourism means recognising when an activity should be postponed, even when bookings and schedules have already been confirmed.

6. Essential Travel Safety Checklist
Before travelling in Nepal during this weather advisory, make sure you have:
* Checked the latest official weather forecast and local notices.
* Confirmed your itinerary with your travel operator.
* Packed waterproof clothing, warm layers and essential medicines.
* Charged your mobile phone and carried a power bank.
* Saved your guide's contact number and accommodation details.
* Allowed sufficient time and flexibility for possible disruptions.
* Followed instructions from local authorities and emergency responders.
If you are already in a potentially hazardous location, seek guidance from your guide or local authorities rather than attempting an unfamiliar route independently.

8. When Can Travellers Resume Their Plans?
The end of the current warning period does not automatically mean that every trekking route, mountain pass or road is safe.
Travellers planning departures from 1 November 2026 onwards should reassess conditions using the latest official forecasts, local authority notices and route-specific information. Some locations may require additional recovery time following rainfall or snowfall.
Your trekking agency or local operator should confirm that the intended route and transport arrangements are suitable before departure.

9. Our Commitment to Responsible Tourism
At Great Nepal Treks & Expedition Pvt. Ltd., we believe that a successful journey is not measured only by the destinations visited, but also by the safety, confidence and well-being of the people who make that journey possible.
Nepal's mountains, rivers, forests and cultural landscapes offer extraordinary experiences. Protecting travellers and local communities is essential to preserving these destinations for future generations.

We encourage all our guests, international travel partners and fellow tourism professionals to remain vigilant, communicate regularly and make decisions based on reliable information.
